This weekend we celebrated my husbands 30th birthday with go carting and a feast in chocolate. He was surrounded by friends and fun and his favorite food. He was one happy guy and I am so happy to have been able to make it happen for him.
Here is a review of the day with some great pictures
As you will see there is a lot of racing and a loooooot of chocolate. Every dish contained it. Chocolate rosemary Cabernet sauce over beef, chocolate port chicken, cocoa rubbed pulled pork, cocoa mango cranberry spinach salad, chocolate fig and Brie panini's, chocolate covered bacon and chocolate salami & cheese platter for dinner and appetizers. Then for dessert came sea salted chocolate crinkle cookies, sea salted caramel dark chocolate cupcakes, mini cannoli bites, and of course the birthday cake which was devils food cake with Italian roast coffee chocolate ganache icing. Yummy!
Happy baking

Chocolate truffles and a little art besides
On a whim, after finding a recipe in a magazine for mocha truffles, I decided it had been far too long since I last made rum truffles for my husband who is a complete chocoholic. I sat contemplating this fact while browsing Pinterest and the more I thought, the more I wondered what I was still doing thinking.
I did a small pantry raid and discovered that I had everything that I needed, ok so not exactly as the recipe called for but that's my total MO, so it works out perfectly. I sadly don't have the recipe at my fingertips but I will find it and add it here soon.
In the mean time I hope these yummy pics can hold you over. Enjoy!
Oh and from the response I got from my husband and his co-workers, these definitely need to be made more often!
It's all in the ingredients... A little butter, a little brown sugar, a little rum ... a whole lot of yum!
The final picture there is courtesy of my little monkey. He decided he wanted to help me roll truffles. Which of course went from a ball shape to a pancake to melted chocolate all over his hands. So what did I do, give him paper and told him to have a ball!! Boy, did he ever! Truffle art!! The tastiest paint ever.
Have a lovely weekend and happy baking
